In early 2014, Nance was diagnosed with an incurable neurological condition. But not only did she refuse to slow down, she began an extensive new body of work, on scratchboard, which ultimately grew to over 600 tablets produced over the last four years of her life. The tablets explore the many emotional and spiritual dimensions of mortality, and range from intensely personal to metaphoric to abstract. They continue the figurative style begun with the earlier wood tablets, but introduce text, to more directly link the work to her own physical and psychological evolution. This site presents a sample of the tablets in 3 galleries.
