This book(scroll down to view gallery of images) is one of several ‘altered books’ Nance created using the method first used by Tom Phillips in his work A Humument. Working from an original, and obscure, text by a long-ago author, she would first paint over the page to obscure all but a few words, thereby revealing a new narrative. Then she would create new drawings inspired by the newly revealed narrative.
